The Truth About Detox Water and Weight Loss

So, we all wonder, what's all the hype about detox this, infused water that? Is it accurate that putting fruit in your water can actually boost your weight loss? Well, I hate to break it to you but it 100% can. Now trust me, I was definitely not the biggest believer of this fact before, but I've done my research and tested it out, and the statement stands true. According to Audrey Johns, author of the book "Fruit Infusion", detox water "naturally helps your body release fat cells for water weight loss," and it also keeps food moving through your digestive system. This means less belly bloating and less water weight retention, hence, weight loss. Now drinking fruit infused water won't necessarily burn the fat right off of you, but it will facilitate the excretion of that extra water weight and waste that we harbor in our digestive system. This can drastically change your appearance; studies show that we carry roughly 15 extra pounds of waste (aka feces) in our digestive system, and due to our poor diets and a lack of nutrients we never excrete that waste. Now that's insane! I for one don't want to be carrying around more weight on my body than I need to. 

Detox water has many other benefits in addition to weight loss. It decreases muscle fatigue while working out, it improves your mood, it helps clear your skin and keeps you from getting into that afternoon slump. 

So, with all that being said, I encourage you to give detox waters a try for a week and see how it works for you. DO NOT drink just water instead of food though. Think about simply switching out the sodas and juice drinks for a fruit infused water. Here's how:

  1. Slice up 2 lemons, 1 lime and mint clove
  2. Add them into a small pitcher filled with water
  3. Make sure not to refrigerate your water, keep it on the counter over night, so that the fruit can adequately infuse into the water.
  4. Have one full glass in morning and one with every meal
